Three Cups of Tea

I recently finished reading the book Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. It is a fascinating book about Greg Mortenson's work in Pakistan and Afghanistan to build schools for children who have no other opportunity for education. I learned a lot about that region of the world and also about the history and formation of the Taliban. The Taliban established schools where radical Islam was taught and then recruited these students to fight for the cause. By establishing secular schools where students were given a basic education, Mortenson is promoting peace by giving people an opportunity to rise about their poverty through education. It tugs at your heart strings to read of the poverty of these people and yet they are happy and content. Even during an economic recession, it still ain't bad to be an American. I highly recommend this book to anyone! If you want to buy it from www.threecupsoftea.com then some of the proceeds go to Mr. Mortenson's nonprofit organization (the Central Asia Institute). Happy reading!
